Does your company own more than one domain name? Is your website’s content accessible through all of these domain names? If so, did you know that you’re violating the search engines’ guidelines, which means that all of your domain names could be banned and removed entirely from the search engines’ indexes. The search engines do not want to index more than one version of your website’s content. If they find more than one copy of a website they usually remove all versions of that website from their index. After all, they don’t know which domain name is the correct one to use.
To make sure you’re not violating the search engines’ guidelines, choose one main domain name—and make sure all the other domains that you own redirect to that main domain name using a
301 Permanent Redirect.
